What motivates you as an entrepreneur?
Women, children, and my family. I was raised by women who all went through so much in relationships, their careers, and more, but no matter what, they never gave up, they always kept going, ALWAYS! Most importantly they always stuck together.
Children motivate me, because it is in them that you can see purpose and innocence. I believe we are all born out of someone else's prayers, and children remind me of that and keep me going. My family is my Drishti (yoga term), they bring me joy, anger, peace, frustration, and stability. They are my calm and my turbulence. They are by far the most important purpose in my life and bring me balance in everything I do. If I am too close to the edge, they bring me back, lol, but sometimes they are the ones pushing me to the edge, either way, with them as the focus I always learn something new and see the next step ever so clearly. They are kinda like my yin and yang.
What is the best advice you were given when starting your business?
Be still! As a teenager my mom always told me to slow down Quadeera, you're doing too much, you're not listening, your body and mind need to rest. I understand what she meant now. When we get quiet, we can hear that which speaks only in stillness and in peace. All things creative, abundant, and prosperous come out of the stillness (the nothingness). So even if its for ten minutes a day, be quiet and be still!
What is your definition of success?
Eating well. Sleeping well. Traveling to inspiring places often. Breathing deeply and releasing peacefully. Always feeling like I have and I am more than enough. Being able to enjoy the creativity of others as well as my own, and enjoying these people I call family often!
What do you want to achieve in the upcoming year personally & professionally ?
I want to be able to plant my hands firmly and come into a full Crow's Pose in my yoga practice. Professionally, a successful 2019 conference for women.
How do you want to use you're strength to give back to the community?
Teaching/mentoring young girls is a passion.
What is the biggest challenge you have in your business?
Purposeful and authentic connections.
Why did you decide to join The Emery?
The energy of the brand seems like a vibrant creative force of energy that I want to be part of. I feel an alignment with the mission, the women, even the colors, lol. I also need a space to host events/meetings that has bold, creative, and vibrant energy... like me!
