What is the name of your business?
Describe your business?
I create handcrafted one-of-a-kind custom paper collections and packaging like custom business cards, wedding invitations, corporate packaging, holiday cards and so much more.
Do you work from your home in an office/studio, other?
I have a studio in a sunny corner of Miami Ironside.
What inspired you to start your business?
I always wanted to be the owner of my own time, and design with no restrictions. The most gratifying feeling come after I am commissioned for a project and bring forth my out- of- the- box ideas and it becomes an element of surprise for my clients!
Take us through your typical day. How do you start things off? What does your afternoon look like? When do you say I'm done!?
I start very early in the morning! I go for a walk or do some yoga. After getting ready for work, I answer emails. I love my quiet time in the morning at home so I can design uninterrupted and concentrate on my project. It is a very productive time of the day for me. Around 10am I am usually at my studio where I meet with clients and print. Usually I say I am done when I get hungry!
What do you do differently to separate yourself from your competitors?
I create packaging that is tailored to fit my clients products, personality and concept. I design and produce packaging with high craftmanship skill, which makes each item a piece of art.
How has Social Media affected your business?
Instagram is the only form of social media I use, and I love it! I dont post every day, but when I do, I love the comments and support from my followers.
What tips could you offer someone to help them grow?
Create a team with key members. Its better to have fewer people, but the right people.
What piece of advice can you give someone just starting out?
It's very important to have a bond with your client. I had received this advice earlier in my career. When you can develop a strong working relationship with your clients, it means you are aligned, the work is simple, inspiring, easy and it flows.
What are your goals for 2018?
I want to support a non profit institution that is associated with my passion of printing. I think I found the perfect organization and will meet with them soon. Stay tuned to find out more!!
What program do you use daily?
Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop
Are you listening to any podcasts and if so which one?
Yes, Michelle Villalobos podcasts, I think they are brilliant!
How do you balance mom life with work life?
When my sons were little I worked from home so that I could always be there for them. When they got older and more independent, I decided to open my studio outside from home, which was harder than I thought. I felt home sick! Now, i look forward to dinner time where we all eat together and share what happened during our day.
What are you most proud of?
My boys, who are fun, intelligent, fine young men and my letterpress printing. I love to experiment with non traditional materials.
Who inspires you?
I am exposed to a lot of people every day, and every day, someone new inspires me! I think it happens because I am open and a good listener.
