A Woman Determined To Change Lives

Jael Toledo,  a Therapist, Motivational Speaker, Author and Writer, is on a mission to change the lives of others through her own experiences.

What is the name of your business?
Jael Toledo

Describe your brand?
My brand is designed around women inspiring women. I develop tools designed to help women find their inner strength to follow their path and redesign their lives to ones that they want to live. I help them rediscover who the @#$% they are, and implement the changes that are necessary to achieve positive growth.

Do you work from your home in an office/studio, other?
I work from both a dedicated office and from my home. I operate my practice as a Marriage and Family Therapist at Isaac Farin Therapy, LLC., located in North Miami Beach.  From home I create, sell, and ship my workbooks.

What inspired you to start your business?
Growing up in a world where women had very few opportunities in comparison to their male counterparts, and were limited to fulfill societal roles such as mother and homemaker, I was inspired by all of those women who pushed back against the norm and took advantage of their intelligence, talent and potential. I was inspired to create a platform where women could discover who they truly are, break the mold created for them by a gender biased society, and discover that they possess the abilities to not only succeed as a mother but could be whomever they wanted to be.

Take us through your typical day. How do you start things off? What does your afternoon look like? When do you say I'm done!?
I start off each day with a glass of hot water and lemon while watching the Today Show for a few minutes in bed. Then, together with my husband, we get the kids ready for school, have COFFEE and TRY to fit in a workout (this is a hard one). While every day is different, a typical day looks like this:

9:30am -  I begin with my therapeutic sessions

1:00pm -  I try to have lunch usually on the phone with amazon support customer service (they have become my lunch buddies) while working on selling, packing and shipping my workbooks: Who The @#$%! am I?  Somedays I will try to have lunch with my friends, or no lunch at all!!

2:00 - 3:00pm - I run my errands... groceries, medicines, etc..

3:15pm - My work day stops and my mom my duties begin. I pick my kids up from school, help them with their homework, take them to after school activities, make dinner, and while all that is happening I squeeze in a bit of “grape juice” as my kids call it.

7:45 - 8:00pm - Everybody is asleep and its me time again

After 8:00pm mommy duties are over and my adult time begins!

I am not sure exactly, when I say I’m done, I am too exhausted to remember! Honestly, it sounds like a lot and sometimes it’s exhausting, but I am thankful every single day for being able to wake up and do what I am passionate about and what I love doing!!

What do you do differently to separate yourself from your competitors?
Unlike other therapists, I become a part of your journey while I help you to find solutions to your challenges.  I guide you as you rediscover who you are, and work with you towards better understanding how you want to live your life.

How has Social Media affected your business?
Social Media has become my main source of communication with my clients. Instagram and Facebook have given me the ability to connect with those that attend my conferences all over the world, and allows us to maintain a connection while I provide the necessary support for them to continue their journey.

What tips could you offer someone to help them grow?
Be real, be authentic, and connect with your clients. People are not only looking to purchase an item, but they are looking for a connection and an experience.

I am extremely conscious about the things I buy and what social cause they support. Let people know that by buying your products or using your platform that not only are they benefiting themselves, but they are helping change lives. They are not only getting an amazing item, but at the same time, they are helping somebody in need.

What piece of advice can you give someone just starting out?
Be clear on why you are starting your business, how your business impacts others, and what problems you are solving. Be consistent and very persistent, don’t let the sleepless nights, challenges with kids, or an overwhelming schedule stop you from chasing your dreams!! There are many days that I wake up feeling overwhelmed and I think I won’t be able to continue with all of this, and it is during these moments where I find inner power and continue fighting.

What are your goals for 2018?
Continue with the organic growth I’ve been having for the past year, improve and learn as much as I can.

Have you read any books, or received any advice that has had a positive impact on your business or in life? Please share.
“Lean In” by Sheryl Sandberg.  This book made me realize that fulfilling many roles is possible, but trying to do it alone is impossible. My day can be pretty crazy, and Dr. Isaac Farin taught me the importance of being mindful about my actions, to enjoy and focus on every task that I perform. As a result, I am learning to enjoy my day, to take it one task at a time instead of constantly multitasking and not enjoying the little things that make the big one so special.

How do you balance mom life with work life?
It's very interesting because I’ve developed many organizational habits to be able to achieve that balance. Every Sunday for two hours I organize my schedule and try to find a balance between all my roles, and it takes one sick child on Monday to throw away my whole calendar. BUT, when the week has no additional challenges, that calendar saves my life, work, marriage, friendships, etc. The calendar has the following categories: Private practice, Kids, Dr. appointments, home errands, workbooks, friends, speaking engagements, work outs, husband time, and me time. Do I get to do it all every week? NOOOOOO but I definitely try!!

What are you most proud of?
Facing my biggest fear of standing up for what I believe, and be able to share my message to thousands of women.

Who inspires you?
My mother and Aunt are the source of my inspirations. Their stories of success while overcoming many emotional, physical and cultural challenges fuels me to fight the way that they did.

Someday I want to ...
Have accomplished my goal of establishing a method that provides women with the tools necessary to design the life they WANT to live and not the one they have to live.
